Tom Dailly, Mayor of the Village of Schaumburg, has issued an official proclamation declaring October 1, 2026 as Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) Awareness Day in the Village of Schaumburg — recognising MCAS as a chronic, multi-system disorder whose patients often face prolonged diagnostic delays because public and clinical awareness remains limited.
The proclamation names Schaumburg resident and Village of Schaumburg Youth Volunteer of the Year Michael-Christopher Suman, who founded Detailing for MCAS to educate communities, support patients and families, and inspire volunteer service in response to his mother's experience living with the condition. It notes that thousands of volunteers have since taken part in educational initiatives, community service projects and fundraising efforts through the organisation.
Signed on the 25th day of August 2026 and affixed with the Seal of the Village of Schaumburg, the proclamation invites residents to learn about MCAS, support those affected, and reaffirms the Village's commitment to community service, compassion and public awareness.
