Everything you need to know about Detailing for MCAS, our programs, and how you can get involved.
About Us
Detailing for MCAS is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals living with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS). We send care packages to patients in hospitals and at home, host virtual events, raise awareness, and build a global community of support — spanning 20+ countries and 70+ chapters.
Detailing for MCAS was founded by Michael Christopher Suman, a high school student whose personal connection to MCAS inspired him to build an organization that could deliver real, tangible support to patients around the world. The organization has since been recognized by Fast Company, Global Genes, NORD, the AFP, and more.

About MCAS
Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) is a rare immunological condition in which mast cells — immune cells found throughout the body — inappropriately activate and release chemical mediators, causing a wide range of symptoms including allergic reactions, gastrointestinal issues, neurological symptoms, and more. It is often debilitating and can significantly impact quality of life.
MCAS is increasingly recognized but remains underdiagnosed. Research suggests it may affect a significant portion of the population, though exact prevalence is difficult to determine due to the complexity of diagnosis. Awareness and research are still growing, which is a core reason Detailing for MCAS exists.
No. Detailing for MCAS is a nonprofit advocacy and support organization, not a medical provider. Nothing on our website or in our programs constitutes medical advice. If you have health concerns related to MCAS, please consult a qualified healthcare professional.
Care Packages
Care packages are distributed through our hospital network and virtual programs. If you or someone you know is a patient at one of our partner hospitals, please reach out to us directly at detailingformcas@gmail.com and we will do our best to assist you.
Our care packages are thoughtfully assembled with items chosen to bring comfort and joy to MCAS patients. Contents are curated to be as MCAS-friendly as possible, avoiding common triggers. Each package is assembled with care by our volunteers around the world.
We partner with hospitals across the United States, including Mayo Clinic Children's Center, Johns Hopkins Children's Center, Ascension Alexian Brothers, and many more. See our full hospital network on the Impact page.
Volunteering
We welcome volunteers from around the world! Visit our Volunteer page to learn about current opportunities and submit an application. Volunteers help with care package assembly, virtual events, social media, outreach, and more.
Not at all. We welcome anyone who is passionate about supporting rare disease patients and making a difference. Many of our volunteers are family members, friends, students, healthcare advocates, and community members who simply want to help.
